Yes, the Critical Patch Update in January 2005 will be provided for Oracle Database Server 8.1.7.4. However, the Error Correction Support for 8.1.7 for some platforms ended on 31-DEC-2003 as described in Note 250629.1 Oracle Database 8.1.7 (8i) desupport notice 1 of 2 and no Extended Maintenance Support (EMS) wasNote 250629.1 Oracle Database 8.1.7 (8i) desupport notice 1 of 2 and no Extended Maintenance Support (EMS) was offered. Therefore, the Critical Patch Update for this product version will not be available for those platforms listed in Note 250629.1. Oracle Corporation announces the end of Error Correction Support for Oracle Database version(s) 8.1.7 (8i) & 8.1.7.x (8i) on the following platform(s): Data General Intel Unix, IBM OS/390 (z/OS) version(s) ALL - MPM, excluding OSDI, IBM NUMA-Q DYNIX/ptx (Sequent), SGI Unix, IBM AIX-Based Systems version(s) 4.3.3, Fujitsu-Siemens RM200-600E Reliant Unix, NEC UX/4800, UnixWare (SCO), effective 31-DEC-2003.
Oracle Corporation recommends customers upgrade/migrate to the following as soon as possible to maintain the highest level of support:
Customers running on one of Oracle's strategic platforms should upgrade to the current version of Oracle Database. Please refer to the most current version of the Oracle Platform Strategy advisory (MetaLink Doc ID: Oracle Platform Strategy advisory (MetaLink Doc ID: 149914.1).
At the time of this notice, Oracle Database 9.2 is the current release, but it is likely that others may be released prior to the desupport date for 8.1.7. 9.2 is the recommended upgrade path for the longest support life.
Customers who are NOT running on one of the above-mentioned strategic platforms should plan to migrate to a then-supported platform in time to upgrade to a currently-supported version of Oracle Database.
ES will be provided until 31-DEC-2006, if the customer has a current support contract in place.
